Spring 2020 in Lockdown
Where to begin … Sunday 22nd March 2020 seems a good place. I open a brand new journal, writing that normally this is 'a time for fresh anticipation and promise.' I reflect that eight months ago I was recording a glorious summer's day, walking in the Dales with the Marston Moor Walkers. Now I'm reflecting on a deeply challenging and sombre week with our country in lockdown, like many others in the world. Anticipating ill health, many deaths and an economic crash that will probably affect us all very badly for many years to come. The words 'self isolate' and social distancing' have leapt into everyday language. A friend remarks that 'it's like a sci-fi film" She has a point. The rationing of outdoor exercise forces me to look harder at what's on my doorstep. A glorious spring is a reminder that nature carries on; a perfect antidote to the global gloom.
